The 300 km cross-border transmission line from Nepal to India will begin construction in 2019, reports Online Khabar.
The Details:
- The 400 KVA transmission line mega project, funded by US-funded Millennium Challange Corporation (MCC), will join Lapsiphedi-Sunwal.
- Currently, the company is selecting consultants for preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the project, conducting the environmental impact assessment of the proposed transmission line and acquiring land for building infrastructure.
- The transmission line will be divided into four sections: Lapsiphedi-Galchhi, Galchhi-Damauli, Galchhi-Hetauda and Damauli-Sunwal. Substations are to be built in Galchhi, Damauli and Suwal, and a separate company will be hired for construction.
Why it matters:
- This transmission line is a part of MCC’s ‘compact program’.
- As MCC’s first compact program in South Asia, MCC approved $500 million (approximately Rs. 52 billion) to Nepal.
- This money will be used to develop roads and transmission lines.
