If anyone said you could game at Ultra Settings in 4K, in a laptop that can fit in your bag pack, you would probably call them crazy. But now, that concoction has been proved wrong by Razer with its new gaming laptop: The Razer Blade Pro. The fact that Razer has designed a device that rocks an overclocked Intel Core i7 7820HK and a freaking desktop grade GTX 1080 in a chassis that is 0.88 inches thick and has been able to successfully cool it is absolutely insane.
In this article, we will talk about the all mighty Razer Blade Pro. Also, the Razer Blade Pro recently made it to Nepal and the Razer Blade Pro price in Nepal is Rs. 4,95,000.
Build
The Blade Pro is a 17-inch device with a sleek aluminum unibody construction. It comes in matte black color with a nice-looking Razer Logo that lights up. For a gaming device, the Blade Pro is fairly minimalistic. There is no RGB lighting on the outside and there are no gimmicks whatsoever. The aluminum body gives it a sturdy feeling. The hinge on this device is smooth too, and can easily be opened with one hand.

When you open the device, you can see a weirdly positioned touchpad and the keyboard. The Razer Blade Pro has the worlds first mechanical keyboard on a laptop, with individually lit RGB backlighting. However, this keyboard is not considered very good by many people. The mushy typing experience and inconsistent typing experience makes this keyboard a bad aspect of this laptop.
The positioning of the trackpad on this device is weird as well. Located at the right side of the keyboard, the trackpad isn’t bad, but it certainly takes some time to get used to. The volume adjustment/scroll wheel above the trackpad can be useful at times.
The port selection on this device is “fair”. It comes with three USB 3.0 ports, Ethernet, HDMI, SDXC Card Slot and a USB-C port that supports Thunderbolt 3. I said “fair” because it has only one USB-C Port and it would be nice to have more than one because every other devices and gadget are adapting to USB-C at this point.
Specifications
The hardware that Razer has been able to cram in this device is truly mesmerizing. The Razer Blade Pro comes with an Intel Core i7 7820HK processor, with 4 cores and 8 threads processor, that has a base frequency of 2.90 GHz and can overclock up to 4.30 GHz. This core count gives you the best experience in gaming and also does a decent job in professional workloads such as video editing and graphic designing.
The Blade Pro has a GTX 1080 graphics card inside it. A GTX 1080. And no that’s not a typo. This is the first time any company has been able to cram a desktop-grade GPU inside a device this thin. With a base clock speed of 1566 and a boost clock speed of 1733, it is not very less than that of the founder’s editions GTX 1080.
The Blade Pro comes with 32 Gigabytes of dual-channel DDR4 RAM running at 2667 MHz. The RAM is soldered so there is no room for future upgradability. The Blade Pro comes with either 512 GB, 1 TB or 2 TB of SSD that run on RAID 0. This combination gives you some of the insanely fast read and write speeds, exceeding 2.5 GB/s of read and write speeds.
The display on this device is breathtaking. It comes with a 17.3” IGZO 4K (3840×2160) Panel with NVIDIA® G-SYNC™ Technology. It is a touchscreen device with a multi-touch feature. It has a refresh rate of 60 Hz and the viewing angles are absolutely amazing. The area where it really shines is its coverage of 100% Adobe RGB Color Space, which will be amazing for the professionals who are involved in color grading work.
The Speakers on this device are nice too. As Razer puts it, “As the world’s first laptop to be a THX® Certified Mobile Device by the legendary audio/visual brand, the 4K Razer Blade Pro gaming laptop delivers an immersive visual and audio experience. Display colors are pre-calibrated for accuracy, producing the best visuals for gaming, videos, and content creation. Plus, enjoy high fidelity audio output through the headphone jack.”
The Blade Pro comes with a 99 Wh Battery, which is the legal limit of the battery that you can bring with you on an airplane. This gigantic battery gives you around 3 hours of usage. Having to run a quad-core processor of 45 TDP and a GTX 1080, 3 hours of battery life is not bad.
Our Verdict
Most gaming laptops nowadays usually come with insane specs, but with a 1080p display. Productivity-focused laptops come with a great 4K screen, but don’t have the horsepower to run it to its full capacity. But Razer Blade Pro gives us the best of both worlds. It has an amazing display, and also the specs needed to run it. The Blade Pro will be able to provide incredible gaming experience with its hardware. It will also be able to shine in the productivity. The quad-core processor and GTX 1080 will accelerate the photo and video rendering to more than most of the laptops out there.
The Razer Blade Pro is an expensive device. Razer Blade Pro Price in Nepal is Rs. 4,95,000 for the 1 TB variant. So, this device is certainly not for everyone. But those who are planning on buying it, this will prove to be a very worthwhile investment.
