How do you stand out as a leader in EVs in a crowded market like Nepal? Cutting prices may hurt your premium image. Building a strong brand takes time, and betting on infrastructure is a slow play. But what if you lead with technology and elevate the customer experience? Changan Nepal just did that with their market-leading warranty, giving their innovative EVs an added layer of peace of mind.

Electric vehicles have grown rapidly in Nepal. Rising fuel prices, supportive government policies, and steadily improving charging infrastructure have accelerated adoption across the country.
According to a recent report by Visual Capitalist, Nepal ranked second globally in EV adoption in 2025. In 2019, EVs accounted for just 8% of total new car sales and that figure has now climbed to 73%. But despite this strong momentum challenges still remain.
One of the most significant concerns revolves around battery technology. The battery remains the most critical component in any EV and also the most expensive one to replace. For many consumers, understanding battery chemistry, durability, and long-term reliability is difficult.
Brands often rely on marketing-heavy terms such as high-density, cutting-edge, or advanced battery packs, which do little to build real confidence. Some manufacturers, however, back their technology with substance and long-term assurance. Changan has done just that.
Rise of Changan in Nepal
Changan is one of China’s major automobile manufacturers, and it entered the Nepali market in 2021. At the time, the brand offered internal combustion engine vehicles, including a sedan and a pickup. The real shift came in 2024, when Changan introduced its Deepal lineup in Nepal and fully embraced electrification.
The launch of the Deepal S07 marked a turning point. Its bold design, advanced technology, and premium positioning immediately set it apart in the SUV segment. The S07 went on to become one of the top-selling vehicles of the year and completely redefined expectations in Nepal’s EV market. Changan continued to build momentum with the launch of the Deepal L07 sedan and the distinctive Deepal E07 SUV-pickup.
Together, these models helped the brand establish a strong and credible foothold in Nepal. To sustain this dominance, however, Changan chose to address the single biggest concern associated with EV ownership: battery longevity.
First they seriously upgraded their battery tech with the state-of-the-art Golden Shield Battery Technology, developed in collaboration between Changan and CATL. This next-generation battery architecture places a strong emphasis on safety, longevity, and thermal stability.

With a claimed lifespan of over 5000 charge cycles, enhanced structural protection, and improved temperature resilience, the Golden Shield battery is designed to withstand both long-term usage and challenging operating conditions.
And with the Golden Shield Battery in place, Changan Nepal has been confident enough to back its technology with an industry-leading extended warranty.
Changan Nepal’s Extended Warranty Program
Changan Nepal has introduced a comprehensive extended warranty program focused on Deepal EV batteries and motors. And, it is currently the longest battery and motor warranty offered in Nepal’s EV market.
Previously, Changan EVs came with a standard manufacturer warranty of 8 years or 2,40,000 km on the battery and 8 years or 1,50,000 km on the motor. The new program adds an additional 3 years or 60,000 km of coverage for the battery and an additional 3 years or 50,000 km for the motor. As a result, total coverage now extends up to 11 years, setting a new benchmark for EV after-sales assurance in Nepal.
The following table breaks down the warranty scheme:
| Component | Warranty Type | Duration | Distance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Battery | Standard Warranty | 8 Years | 2,40,000 km |
| Battery | Extended Warranty | +3 Years | +60,000 km |
| Battery (Total) | Combined Coverage | 11 Years | 3,00,000 km |
| Motor | Standard Warranty | 8 Years | 1,50,000 km |
| Motor | Extended Warranty | +3 Years | +50,000 km |
| Motor (Total) | Combined Average | 11 Years | 2,00,000 km |
The warranty is structured such that once the standard manufacturer warranty expires, the coverage continues under the extended program. The extended warranty program is administered by MAW Vriddhi and is issued via Shikhar Insurance.
What Does the Extended Warranty Cover?
As defined by the program terms and eligibility criteria, Changan Nepal’s extended warranty applies strictly to eligible manufacturing or quality-related defects in vital high-voltage EV components. This ensures the coverage remains focused on the most critical and expensive parts of an electric vehicle, rather than being diluted by broad or ambiguous inclusions.
Battery Coverage
- The battery-related coverage includes: The high-voltage battery pack and related eligible components Battery safety systems and control-related electronics, where applicable.
Motor Coverage
- The motor-related coverage includes: Traction motor assembly Motor Control Unit (MCU) and associated electronics, as applicable.
What the Extended Warranty Does Not Cover?
While the extended warranty is rather comprehensive, there are things that are excluded from it. And, it is important to consider that as well.
The extended warranty does not cover:
- Accidents, collisions, or external-impact damage
- Water ingress caused by non-manufacturing factors
- Wear-and-tear items and consumables (tyres, brake pads, wipers, 12V battery)
Mandatory Conditions to Keep the Warranty Valid
Changan Nepal has outlined strict conditions that must be followed for the extended warranty to remain valid.
Owners must:
- Service their vehicles only at authorized service centers
- Follow the recommended maintenance schedule and owner’s manual requirements
- Use only genuine or Changan-approved parts
Failure to comply with these conditions may result in termination of the warranty.
Additionally, the extended warranty will be voided in cases involving:
- Unauthorized modifications or non-approved parts
- Repairs performed at unauthorized workshops
- Misuse, negligence, or competitive/racing use
- Odometer manipulation or inaccurate mileage records
The Insurance Continuity Rule
One of the most important aspects of the program is insurance continuity.
The extended warranty is valid only if the vehicle remains continuously insured under Shikhar Insurance’s Comprehensive Motor Policy. If the insurance coverage is transferred to another insurer at any point, the extended warranty will be immediately voided.
Both the insurance policy and the extended warranty must remain active throughout the entire combined coverage period (manufacturer warranty + extended warranty).
Existing Owners and Late Enrollment Options
Changan Nepal has also provided pathways for existing Deepal owners to enroll in the extended warranty program.
Scenario 1: Vehicle Already Insured with Shikhar Insurance
If the vehicle is already insured with Shikhar Insurance, owners can add the extended warranty by paying the applicable premium, provided the EV meets inspection and eligibility criteria.
Scenario 2: Vehicle Insured with Another Insurance Company
If the vehicle is insured with another insurer, the extended warranty cannot be issued as a standalone policy. To enroll, the vehicle must be insured under Shikhar Insurance’s Comprehensive Motor Policy and it has been transparently mentioned that, in this scenario additional premium for past years may apply.
Also, continuous coverage must be maintained until the end of the total warranty period
Final Verdict on Changan’s Extended Warranty Program
Changan Nepal’s extended warranty program is a long-term strategic play where they directly address the most critical concern in EV ownership. The ease of claiming and application of this extended warranty program will be seen in coming years but one thing is for sure, it does help inspire trust in both the product and brand.
At present, Changan sits as a market leader in warranty coverage, offering the longest combined battery and motor protection in Nepal’s EV market. BYD Nepal follows closely behind with its 10-year warranty scheme covering both battery and motor.
This intensifying rivalry is ultimately a net positive for consumers. As Nepal’s EV ecosystem evolves, factors such as warranty depth, transparent claim processes, and strong after-sales assurance will increasingly outweigh short-term incentives or price-based competition.
