Agni Group, the authorized distributor of Mahindra vehicles in Nepal, is planning to bring the Mahindra XEV 9e this year.

Built on Mahindra’s latest technological feat, the INGLO platform, it benefits from a modular skateboard architecture developed exclusively for the brand’s next-generation electric vehicles.

Mahindra has invested heavily in R&D to create the INGLO platform.

Designed from the ground up as a dedicated EV base, it offers exceptional space efficiency for LFP battery placement while enhancing overall performance and safety.

The platform also integrates a comprehensive suite of safety features like GNCAP compliance and ADAS, along with a compatibility with AI-powered technologies. It supports adaptive controls, driver monitoring systems, and other intelligent features through Mahindra’s proprietary tech ecosystem, MAIA.

So far, Mahindra has introduced two vehicles based on this platform: the Mahindra BE 6 and the Mahindra XEV 9e.

Based on pricing in the Indian market, the XEV 9e is expected to cost more than the BE 6. In India, the BE 6 starts at Rs. 18.90 lakhs, while the XEV 9e carries a higher starting price of Rs. 21.90 lakhs.

We’ll continue to update this article as new details emerge, so stay tuned for the latest information.

Mahindra XEV 9e Overview

Design

The Mahindra XEV 9e makes a bold statement with its sporty, muscular design and distinctly cyberpunk-inspired aesthetics.

Its futuristic appeal begins right at the front, where a sharply contoured bonnet and angular nose create an aggressive stance. All variants share the same front design, which includes vertically stacked Bi-LED Projector Headlamps housed in a blacked-out V-shaped enclosure.

The Pack Three Select and Pack Three variants offer Connected LED DRLs and Sequential turn indicators—features absent in the base Pack One while Pack Two does offer the latter feature.

The body-colored, layered-pattern grille injects a sense of electric identity, while prominent creases break the visual monotony. A rugged black cladding on the lower bumper enhances its assertive presence.

From the side, the XEV 9e’s coupe-like silhouette becomes prominent, thanks to its sloping roofline that flows seamlessly into the tailgate. This side profile gives off serious Tata Curvv.ev vibes.

All variants ride on 19-inch wheels, but there’s a clear distinction in materials. While the base Pack One comes with alloy-look steel wheels, the higher variants get true alloy wheels with aero inserts that enhance both style and aerodynamics.

At the rear, a Full-Width LED Taillight grabs attention, with an illuminated Mahindra logo taking center. Look closely and you’ll notice the rear bumper tapering upward, and this isn’t just for looks. It actively guides airflow underneath the car via an integrated diffuser, reducing drag and supporting laminar flow.

Pack Three Select and Pack Three take things a step further by offering a Gesture-Controlled Power Tailgate.

Inside, the XEV 9e delivers a radically modern cabin experience. The centerpiece is a Triple-Screen setup, with three 12.3-inch Displays dedicated to the Instrument Cluster, Infotainment, and Front Passenger Entertainment.

The dashboard layout and floating console embrace a clean and high-tech aesthetic, while the glossy finish on the center console adds a touch of luxury.

Seat upholstery varies by variant. The base Pack One uses fabric, while all other trims upgrade to Premium Leatherette with Power-Adjustable Front Seats. Pack Three Select and Pack Three also offer Front Seat Ventilation for added comfort. The two-spoke steering wheel comes with Tilt and Telescopic Adjustment across all variants.

In terms of audio, the base variant features a 6-Speaker Sound System, whereas the upper variants step up with a 16-speaker Harman Kardon setup.

These also include a Panoramic Sunroof, Wireless Charging, and Dual-Zone Climate Control, which are exclusive to Pack Two and above.

For tech-savvy drivers, the top-tier Pack Three variant even includes a Heads-Up Display (HUD).

Mahindra offers the XEV 9e in a multitude of colors including Tango Red, Everest White, Nebula Blue, Ruby Velvet, Desert Myst, and Stealth Black.

Performance

The powertrain of the XEV 9e varies based on the selected variant. Among the four variants, the first three, i.e., the Pack One, Pack Two, and Pack Three Select variants are powered by a 170 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor that produces a max power of 231 PS and a max torque of 380 Nm.

These three variants are powered by a 59 kWh Blade Battery pack, which provides a comprehensive MIDC-claimed range of 542 km. And, when it comes to charging, a 7.2 kW AC charger takes approximately 8.7 hours to fully recharge the battery from 0 to 100%. Opting for an 11.2 kW AC charger reduces the time to just 6 hours.

For faster charging, these variants support up to 140 kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to go from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes. However, using Nepal’s available 60 kW DC chargers, the same charge would take around 50 minutes.

The top-spec Pack Three variant steps things up with a more powerful 210 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor that produces 285.5 PS of max power and 380 Nm of max torque. It comes equipped with a larger 79 kWh Blade Battery, offering a MIDC-claimed range of 656 km.

This particular variant was also tested on the WLTP cycle where it gave a 533 km range reading, which is quite good.

One key point to note is the noticeable gap between MIDC and WLTP range estimates. Choosing WLTP figures for electric vehicle range offers a more realistic and practical benchmark for everyday use. We’ve explained these EV range test standards in detail in a dedicated article—be sure to check it out to better understand how each testing cycle works.

Moving on, charging the larger battery with a 7.2 kW AC charger takes about 11.7 hours for a full charge, while the 11.2 kW AC option brings that down to 8 hours. The Pack Three also supports 180 kW DC fast charging, enabling a 20% to 80% charge in just 20 minutes. In Nepal’s context, a 60 kW DC charger would take approximately one hour to achieve the same.

Performance-wise, the XEV 9e reaches a top speed of 202 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds. Moreover, it features five different driving modes.

Additional Details

McPherson Strut with Stabilizer Bar and Five-Link Independent Suspension handles the suspension duties in Pack One and Pack Two variants. But for Pack Three Select and Pack Three, an Intelligent Adaptive Suspension takes the suspension charge.

The dimensions are 4789 mm in length, 1907 mm in width, and 1694 mm in height. Moreover, the wheelbase is 2775 mm.

The ground clearance for XEV 9e is 207 mm (overall) while the clearance is 218 mm at the battery section. Moreover, all variants of 9e weighs more than 2 Tons.

It has a frunk space of 150-liter while the boot space is 663-liter so no complaints in the storage department.

Rivals

The upcoming Mahindra XEV 9e is set to face stiff competition from the BYD Sealion 7, which is also expected to debut in Nepal later this year. Both electric SUVs bring something unique to the table, but the rivalry becomes especially interesting when you consider their respective brand legacies and technological strengths.

When it comes to electric mobility, BYD holds a distinct advantage. As one of the global pioneers in EV technology, the Chinese automaker has consistently pushed boundaries in battery innovation, powertrain development, and software integration.

In contrast, Mahindra has its roots in rugged utility vehicles, having built a reputation for durable and robust offerings since 1947. However, in recent years, Mahindra has significantly ramped up its focus on research, technology, and electric mobility.

Looking at the powertrain, the BYD Sealion 7 clearly leads the pack. It offers both Rear-Wheel Drive and All-Wheel Drive configurations and comes with a larger battery pack. Its motor setup produces noticeably more power compared to the XEV 9e, giving it a performance edge. However, this performance comes at the cost of efficiency.

The XEV 9e (Pack Three) delivers a better range due to its more conservative power output, making it a practical choice for those who prioritize efficiency over sheer speed.

On the interior side, Mahindra has taken a bold step with the XEV 9e’s interior, which feels unlike anything currently available in the Indian-made car segment. It brings a surprising level of premiumness and modern design. However, BYD takes luxury to the next level. The Sealion 7 offers a more upscale and tech-forward cabin that exudes refinement.

In terms of features, both models offer a rich list of equipment, including large infotainment displays, connected tech, and advanced driver assistance systems.

While official prices for Nepal remain unconfirmed, the Indian pricing gives us a fair idea of what to expect. The BYD Sealion 7 carries a premium tag, ranging from ₹49 lakh to ₹55 lakh, whereas the Mahindra XEV 9e sits in a more accessible range of ₹22 lakh to ₹30.5 lakh.

If this pricing pattern holds in Nepal, Mahindra will likely appeal to a broader audience, while BYD will cater to those seeking high-end electric performance. BYD’s deep expertise and head start in EV technology give it a commanding position.

If Mahindra wants to seriously challenge BYD in Nepal, it would need to adopt an aggressive pricing strategy, although historically, this has not been the company’s approach. Still, for buyers, the competition between these two could mean more choices and better value in Nepal’s growing EV market.

But, what do you think about Mahindra’s XEV 9e? Does it have what it takes to rival the Chinese EV giant? Do let us know in the comments!
