The A5 Pro might not grab your attention at first. While its performance isn’t the best, it shines in durability. It’s a sturdy, reliable device—built to withstand tough conditions, even if it’s not the flashiest option out there.

OPPO A5 Pro Overview

Design

The OPPO A5 Pro comes with a rectangular camera module, unlike the circular design seen on the Chinese variant of the phone.

The camera module houses two cameras and a circular flashlight that resembles a small ring light. At first glance, I expected the entire ring to illuminate, but in reality, it contains just a single LED that lights up only a portion of it—which was a bit disappointing.

The phone features a plastic body but stands out with its IP66/IP68/IP69 rating for dust and water resistance, which is rare in this price range. At the launch event, OPPO emphasized its durability, claiming it can withstand high-pressure water jets and even capture underwater photos.

Seeing these features in a mid-budget segment is definitely a positive highlight, setting the OPPO A5 Pro apart from many competitors in its price range.

OPPO also highlights the aluminum motherboard cover and MIL-STD 810H certification, ensuring the phone is built to withstand drops and scratches with ease.

The phone is available in two color options: Mocha Brown and Olive Green. Interestingly, the Olive Green edition is slightly thicker and heavier compared to the Mocha Brown variant.

Display

On the front, the phone features a 6.67-inch IPS LCD HD+ display with a resolution of 720 x 1604 pixels and a 90Hz refresh rate. The brightness peaks at an 1000 nits.

The phone features a punch-hole cutout for the camera, but it comes with asymmetrical bezels, including a noticeably thick chin. However, this is understandable considering its affordable price point.

Finally, the display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 7i, offering added durability and resistance to scratches and drops.

Frankly, OPPO could have delivered a better display on the A5 Pro. Compared to other smartphones in the same price range, like the OnePlus Nord CE4, CMF Phone 1, and Redmi Note 14 5G, which offer AMOLED displays with 120Hz refresh rates, the display on the A5 Pro feels like a bit of a dealbreaker.

Hardware

The OPPO A5 Pro is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 1 processor, built on a 11nm process. It features 4x 2.1 GHz Cortex-A73 cores and 4x 1.8 GHz Cortex-A53 cores. For graphics, it is equipped with the Adreno 610 GPU.

When comparing the AnTuTu and Geekbench scores, the processor in the A5 Pro performs similarly to the Unisoc T606, which is found in budget phones like the Nubia V70 Max and Nubia Design. Given the A5 Pro’s price, this feels like a significant compromise, as other phones in the same range deliver much better performance, especially with more powerful processors.

At least the smartphone comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, which is decent, but still feels like a mixed bag considering its performance.

Camera and OS

The OPPO A5 Pro has a 50MP main camera accompanied by a 2MP depth sensor. The selfie camera is an 8MP shooter. Both the rear and front cameras can shoot videos in 1080p, with the rear camera supporting up to 60fps and the front camera at 30fps.

However, there is no EIS or OIS for stabilization, which may result in shaky footage during video recording. Additionally, the phone lacks an ultrawide camera, limiting its versatility for wide-angle shots.

OPPO highlights several AI features on the A5 Pro, including AI Eraser, AI Reflection Remover, and AI Unblur. AI Eraser removes unwanted background objects, AI Reflection Remover eliminates reflections, and AI Unblur sharpens blurry images, enhancing the overall photo quality.

The phone runs on Android 15 with ColorOS 15 skin on top.

Battery and OS

The OPPO A5 Pro is equipped with a 5800mAh battery that charges via the included USB-C port. It supports 45W SuperVOOC fast charging, ensuring quicker power-ups.

OPPO claims that the battery will retain over 80% capacity even after four years, with up to 36 hours of phone calls and 17 hours of video streaming.

The OPPO A5 Pro is priced at Rs. 32,999 for the 8GB/256GB variant in Nepal. Pre-booking is available until March 24, 2025, with the first sale starting on March 25, 2025.
