Hansraj and Hulaschand, the authorized distributor for Triumph motorcycles in Nepal, have confirmed the upcoming launch of the new Scrambler 400 variants. Unlike the Speed 400 MY2025 update, where the older model was replaced, Triumph will offer the Triumph Scrambler 400 X and the Triumph Scrambler 400 XC side by side as separate variants.

Since their unveiling at the NADA Auto Show 2024, Triumph’s Nepal lineup has been limited to just two models: the Triumph Speed 400 and the Triumph Scrambler 400X. Despite the small portfolio, both bikes have maintained strong appeal in their respective segments.

With the addition of the more off-road-focused Scrambler 400 XC, Triumph is clearly looking to build on that momentum. The brand has already sold more than 2,000 units nationwide, and with the Scrambler positioned as the top model in the lineup, its premium appeal is only set to grow.

Triumph Nepal already offers most of this hardware as optional accessories at an added cost. The Scrambler 400 XC changes that by bundling them together at a more aggressive price point.

While launch and pricing details are still limited, the 400 XC is expected to arrive within the next few months, with a likely launch window around March 2026. We will continue to update this as more information becomes available.

So what makes the Triumph Scrambler 400 XC stand out from the rest? Let’s take a closer look.

Triumph Scrambler 400 X Overview

Design

The front section highlights its strong and purposeful stance, perfectly balancing modern design with classic scrambler styling. A prominent round LED headlamp sits within a protective grille that comes as standard, adding a rugged touch to the overall look.

The chunky gold-painted USD forks not only enhance its premium feel but are also tuned for off-road performance. While they look similar to the ones on the Speed 400, these are noticeably more capable. For further specifications, you can refer to the Additional Details section.

The tall and wide handlebars with integrated handguards and rearview mirrors enhance rider comfort. safety, and control. This gives the Scrambler a confident and upright riding position typical of its class. Unlike the Speed 400, which uses aluminum bars, the Scrambler 400 X is equipped with wider and sturdier steel handlebars designed to withstand rough riding conditions.

However, the 400 XC specific changes include Tubeless Spoke Wheels with Aluminium Rims, an Aluminium Sump Guard, a high-mounted Front Mudguard, Adjustable Levers, and a Flyscreen.

From the side, the Scrambler 400 X displays balanced proportions with a design that shows careful attention to detail. The fuel tank retains a classic teardrop shape with a modern twist, proudly bearing the iconic Triumph logo. Its sculpted form is both stylish and practical, ensuring the handlebars never touch the tank during tight turns.

The engine area features a clean, well-finished look, protected by a sturdy bash plate. Interestingly, Triumph has added decorative fins to the liquid-cooled engine, purely for visual flair and to evoke a classic air-cooled aesthetic. The split-seat setup complements the bike’s overall style, though it clearly favors the rider with more space and support than the pillion.

The side-mounted dual exhausts, combined with alloy wheels and disc brakes, emphasize the Scrambler’s performance-oriented character. Viewed from behind, the wide rear tire immediately stands out, reinforcing the bike’s sturdy stance and road-ready confidence.

At the rear, the Scrambler 400 X carries a minimalist yet muscular design. The absence of bulky mudguards gives it a clean, sporty appeal, while the neatly integrated taillight adds a refined finish. The sleek, contoured tail section ties in smoothly with the rest of the bike’s silhouette.

The instrument cluster follows the same blend of classic and modern styling. It skips the TFT display in favor of a Semi-Digital setup. The display includes indicators for Engine Management, Oil Pressure, Engine Temperature, Traction Control, and ABS Indicator.

The Triumph Scrambler 400 X is offered in five color options: Red with Phantom Black, Phantom Black with Silver Ice, Matt Khaki Green with Fusion White, and Pearl Metallic White. Moreover, the Scrambler 400 XC comes in Vanilla White, Racing Yellow, and Storm Grey colors.

Performance

The Triumph Scrambler 400 X is powered by a 398.15cc Single-Cylinder, Liquid-cooled, 4-Valve DOHC engine. It produces a max power of 40 PS at 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 37.5 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox, featuring an assisted Slipper Clutch, and comes with a 13-liter fuel tank capacity.

The Scrambler 400 X and the Speed 400 share the same engine, and their performance figures remain identical. Both bikes were originally offered with an impressive 16,000 km service interval. However, to better suit Nepal’s demanding terrain and varying riding conditions, the interval has now been revised to 8,000 km or six months.

Apart from this, Triumph has made a small but notable change to set the Scrambler apart. It uses a different sprocket setup, reducing the front sprocket by one tooth, from 15/43 on the Speed 400 to 14/43. This adjustment compensates for the larger rear tire and results in shorter gearing, giving the Scrambler 400 X quicker acceleration and stronger low-end response.

Additional Details

The suspension setup is another key area where the Scrambler 400 X differs from the Speed 400. It comes equipped with 43 mm upside-down Big Piston forks at the front and a rear monoshock with preload adjustability. The suspension has been lifted, offering 20 mm more travel at the front and 30 mm more at the rear, resulting in a total travel of 150 mm. This setup not only improves ride comfort but also enhances the bike’s off-road capability.

These changes have also affected the overall dimensions. The wheelbase now measures 1418 mm, 41 mm longer than the Speed 400, while the seat height has increased to 835mm and ground clearance to 195 mm. In terms of size, the Scrambler 400 X measures 2117 mm in length, 825 mm in width, and 1190 mm in height, with a kerb weight of 179 kg.

Rivals

Triumph Scrambler 400 rivals the Royal Enfield Scram 440.

On paper, the Triumph easily outclasses the Royal Enfield. It features a more advanced 4-valve, liquid-cooled DOHC engine that delivers 14.58 PS more power and 3.5 Nm more torque. The feature list also feels more complete, offering an all-LED setup, Ride-by-Wire throttle, and Switchable Traction Control, all while staying within the same price bracket as the Scram 440.

However, the Scram 440 takes a different path. It focuses on the overall riding feel and real-world experience rather than chasing performance figures. For example, while the Triumph Scrambler 400 X gets upside-down Big Piston forks and a preload-adjustable rear monoshock with 150 mm of travel, the Scram 440 uses a traditional 41 mm telescopic fork up front and a linkage-type rear monoshock that provides 190 mm of front and 180 mm of rear travel. It even offers 5 mm more ground clearance than the Triumph, improving comfort and flexibility over varied terrain.

While the Triumph Scrambler 400 X may seem superior on paper, the Royal Enfield Scram 440 offers a more connected and engaging riding experience that numbers alone can’t capture. In the end, it all comes down to rider preference.
