Agni Group, the authorized distributor of Mahindra vehicles in Nepal, made their most profound step toward their electric future yet, by introducing two significant models to the Nepali market: the flagship XEV 9e and the Mahindra BE 6.

Just like the BE 6, the XEV 9e rides on Mahindra’s cutting-edge INGLO platform, which is a modular skateboard architecture purpose-built for the brand’s next-generation electric vehicles. And, Mahindra has poured substantial investment into R&D to develop INGLO from the ground up as a dedicated EV base.

The platform delivers outstanding space efficiency for LFP battery integration while boosting overall performance and safety. INGLO also comes loaded with advanced safety and intelligence. It meets GNCAP standards, features ADAS, and supports AI-powered technologies through Mahindra’s proprietary MAIA ecosystem. Moreover, drivers benefit from adaptive controls, a driver monitoring system, and other intelligent functionalities designed to make every drive smarter and safer.

Although the BE 6 and XEV 9e share the same platform, the XEV 9e positions itself as a more luxurious, family-focused SUV, while the BE 6 takes on a slightly smaller, sportier persona.

As compared to the pricing structure of the BE 6 that gradually climbs, the XEV 9e has quite an exponential rise. Is it because of the specs? We’ll see.

Let’s have a quick look at the key specs of Mahindra XEV 9e in Nepal for 2025.

Mahindra XEV 9e Overview

Exterior

The Mahindra XEV 9e marks a significant leap in the brand’s electric vehicle evolution, adopting the “Heartcore Design” philosophy. This approach blends emotional connection between the vehicle and its owner with bold innovation and modern luxury.

At the front, Jewel-like Bi-LED projector headlamps sit within a blacked-out V-shaped enclosure, complemented by an edge-to-edge LED DRL strip. The inverted L-shaped connected LED DRLs, however, are exclusive to the Pack 3 Selection and Pack 3 trims. Sequential turn indicators come standard across all variants for Nepal.

A sharply contoured bonnet and angular nose give the XEV 9e an aggressive stance while optimizing the frontal area to manage incoming airflow effectively.

Similar to the BE 6, the XEV 9e features a coupe-like silhouette, highlighted by a sloping roofline that flows into the tailgate. Unlike the BE 6, which has a more squared-off boot design, the XEV 9e extends slightly at the rear. This design choice increases boot capacity, aided by the car’s greater overall length. It might be just me but the side profile, with its clean lines and flowing proportions, bears a resemblance to the Tata Curvv.ev.

All variants ride on stylish 19-inch Alloy Wheels with true aero inserts.

At the rear, a Full-Width LED Taillight demands attention, with an illuminated Mahindra logo at the center. The upward-tapering rear bumper integrates a functional diffuser that channels airflow beneath the vehicle, reducing drag and maintaining smooth laminar flow. Higher trims, specifically the Pack 3 Selection and Pack 3, further enhance convenience with a Gesture-Controlled Power Tailgate.

Additionally, Mahindra offers the XEV 9e in a variety of striking colors, including Tango Red, Everest White, Nebula Blue, Ruby Velvet, Desert Myst, and Stealth Black.

Interior

Interior Inside, the XEV 9e delivers a thoroughly modern and technologically advanced cabin.

The highlight is the Triple-Screen layout, featuring three 12.3-inch displays dedicated to the Instrument Cluster, Infotainment System, and front passenger entertainment. In comparison, the BE 6 offers two displays.

On a writer’s note, the cabin ‘feels’ noticeably more spacious and comfortable in the XEV 9e, even though both it and the BE 6 share the same wheelbase.

Moving on, seat upholstery depends on the variant. Most trims feature premium Leatherette with Power-Adjustable front seats, while the Pack 3 Selection and Pack 3 also add Front Seat Ventilation. The two-spoke steering wheel offers Tilt and Telescopic adjustments across all variants.

Additional features include a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a Panoramic Sunroof, Wireless Charging, and Dual-Zone Climate Control. The Pack 3 variant adds a Head-Up Display.

Performance

The XEV 9e is available in three variants. However, both the Pack 2 and the Pack 3 Selection share the same powertrain. In contrast, the Pack 3 stands out as the top-spec variant, offering significantly enhanced performance thanks to its more advanced powertrain.

The Pack 2, and Pack 3 Selection variants are powered by a 99 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor that produces a max power of 136 PS and a max torque of 380 Nm.

These two variants are powered by a 59 kWh Blade Battery pack, which provides a comprehensive MIDC-claimed range of 542 km. And, when it comes to charging, a 7.2 kW AC charger takes approximately 9 hours to fully recharge the battery from 0 to 100%. Opting for an 11.2 kW AC charger reduces the time to just 6 hours.

For faster charging, these variants support up to 140 kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to go from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes.

The top-spec Pack 3 variant steps things up with a more powerful 199 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor that produces 271 PS of max power and 380 Nm of max torque. It comes equipped with a larger 79 kWh Blade Battery, offering a MIDC-claimed range of 656 km.

This particular variant was also tested on the WLTP cycle where it gave a 533 km range reading, which is quite impressive.

One key point to note is the noticeable gap between MIDC and WLTP range estimates. Choosing WLTP figures for electric vehicle range offers a more realistic and practical benchmark for everyday use. We’ve explained these EV range test standards in detail in a dedicated article—be sure to check it out to better understand how each testing cycle works.

Moving on, charging the larger battery with a 7.2 kW AC charger takes about 12 hours for a full charge, while the 11.2 kW AC option brings that down to 8 hours. The Pack Three also supports 180 kW DC fast charging, enabling a 20% to 80% charge in just 20 minutes.

Moreover, it features five different driving modes.

However, the motor capacities of all variants have been limited to adjust into Nepal’s tax regulations and policies. The motors in the Pack 2 and Pack 3 Selection have been reduced from 170 kW to 99 kW, while the Pack 3’s motor has been scaled down from 210 kW to 199 kW.

Although reducing the Pack 3’s motor capacity by just 11 kW may not significantly impact its performance, it is important to note that this variant is priced at nearly Rs. 1 Crore. In contrast, the more ‘affordable’ options (the Pack 2 and the Pack 3 Selection), suffer a considerable drop in performance due to the notable decrease in motor capacity.

Additional Details

McPherson Strut with Stabilizer Bar and Five-Link Independent Suspension handles the suspension duties in Pack 2. But for Pack 3 Selection and Pack 3, an Intelligent Adaptive Suspension takes the suspension charge.

The dimensions are 4789 mm in length, 1907 mm in width, and 1694 mm in height. Moreover, the wheelbase is 2775 mm.

The ground clearance for XEV 9e is 207 mm (overall) while the clearance is 218 mm at the battery section. Moreover, all variants of 9e weighs more than 2 Tons.

It has a frunk space of 150-liter while the boot space is 663-liter so no complaints in the storage department.

Rivals

The Mahindra XEV 9e enters a competitive battlefield in Nepal, facing strong opposition from the recently launched BYD Sealion 7. Both electric SUVs bring distinct strengths, making this rivalry especially engaging when viewed through the lens of their brand heritage and technological capabilities.

In the world of electric mobility, BYD holds a clear edge. As a global pioneer in EV technology, the Chinese automaker has consistently advanced battery innovation, powertrain development, and software integration. Mahindra, on the other hand, built its legacy on rugged and dependable utility vehicles, earning a reputation for toughness since 1947.

In recent years, however, Mahindra has stepped up its investment in research, technology, and electric mobility, signaling a clear intent to compete in the new energy era. And, to make this comparison fair, we will consider the XEV 9e variant within the same price range as the Sealion 7.

The Sealion 7 falls somewhere between Mahindra’s Pack 2 and Pack 3 Selection trims. When comparing powertrains, the two SUVs match each other in motor output, but the Sealion 7’s larger battery gives it a decisive advantage in range. Inside the cabin, Mahindra has taken a bold approach. The XEV 9e offers an interior unlike anything seen in Indian-made vehicles so far, with a surprisingly premium and modern design.

BYD, though, has greater experience in crafting EV interiors. While earlier models such as the Atto 3 and Dolphin featured somewhat busy cabin layouts, the Sealion 7 strikes a far more refined balance, giving it a more appealing atmosphere.

Both SUVs deliver a strong set of features, including expansive infotainment systems, connected technology, and advanced driver assistance features. However, the XEV 9e can match the Sealion 7 only if we consider the Pack 3 Selection variant, as the Pack 2 trim falls short in comparison. The challenge for Mahindra is that the Pack 3 Selection carries a slightly higher price tag than the Sealion 7, creating a tricky value proposition.

In truth, the XEV 9e’s most compelling strength lies in its distinctive design. Conversely, BYD’s decision to alter the Sealion 7’s powertrain for Nepal, likely to align with parts used in other models, is somewhat disappointing. However, Mahindra Nepal has also reduced the motor output in these variants from 170 kW to 99 kW. Given the complex interplay of importer strategies and tax policies in Nepal, these reductions balance out and may not influence the choice significantly.

From a practical perspective, Mahindra would have needed a far more aggressive pricing strategy to truly challenge BYD in Nepal. The Sealion 7 already presents a formidable challenge for Mahindra’s electric SUV lineup in the country, and BYD Nepal further strengthens its position by offering extended warranty schemes, such as a 10-year battery warranty, which can significantly influence a buyer’s decision.

Although Mahindra has historically avoided an aggressive pricing strategies, the growing competition still benefits buyers by creating more choices and delivering better value in Nepal’s rapidly expanding EV market. In the end, only time will reveal which of these two electric SUVs will capture the greater loyalty of Nepal’s EV enthusiasts.

But, what do you think about Mahindra’s XEV 9e? Does it have what it takes to rival the Chinese EV giant? Do let us know in the comments!
