History has been made for the very first time! Unfortunately, it isn’t something to celebrate.
Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has announced the suspension of all domestic and commercial flights. This comes as an effort to stop the spread of the notorious Covid-19.
Moreover, the services halted from Tuesday. Additionally, it is expected to last starting from March 24 to March 31, 2019. Likewise, the decision has been implemented following the government’s directive to close down the nation in a week-long lockdown.
It means that approximately 450 daily flights in Kathmandu and 150 flights across the nation have come to a screeching halt. However, flights specified by CAAN (like evacuation flight, rescue flight, freighter flight, etc.) will be operated via a special authorization.
With this lockdown, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal will direct concerned airline companies to give a full refund to affected customers.
Moreover, the Govt has banned the entry of any kind as a precautionary measure. As expected, this decision was met with considerable criticism from the public, especially for leaving the Nepalese abroad to hang dry. However, it has been challenged at the Supreme Court, to allow the entry of the citizens.
Thus far, three cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in Nepal. So, everyone must do their part to contain the spread of the virus.
