Updated Geely EX5 Arrives in Nepal: What It Offers and What Buyers Should Question

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Geely Galaxy EX5 price in Nepal starts at Rs. 58 Lakhs.
  • It is available in two variants: Pro and Max.
  • Galaxy EX5 is the first fully Geely-bred EV in Nepal.

In Nepal, we know Geely better through its subsidiaries Zeekr and Riddara than through a car that actually carries the Geely badge. That changes with the EX5, which made its debut at the NADA Auto Show 2025. The model has now been reiterated in its 2026 form, signaling intent rather than a one-off appearance. But there are a few questions that we will talk about in this article while discussing the EX5.

LRR Motors, the authorized distributor for the Geely EX5 in Nepal, made headlines when it debuted a Geely-badged vehicle at the NADA Auto Show 2025 and drew immediate attention.

Its entry also raised several questions within the automotive community. The company positioned itself as the authorized distributor of the Geely EX5 in Nepal, a claim that naturally drew scrutiny, given the absence of any previously known official Geely distributor in the country. The situation became more complex due to Proton’s parallel presence. Proton, the Malaysian automotive brand in which Geely holds a significant stake (49.9%), had already entered Nepal through Jagadamba Motors.

The situation became even more complicated by the fact that the first EV from Proton, i.e., the Proton e.Mas 7 and the Geely EX5 share strong similarities in design, platform, and technology, as both originate from the same broader Geely ecosystem. Two closely related vehicles with shared engineering roots appeared in the same market through entirely different import channels and brand narratives. This overlap led to confusion among consumers and industry observers regarding distribution rights, brand alignment, and the official standing of Geely-badged vehicles in Nepal.

Proton Nepal even went ahead and released a statement clearly stating that Geely has not appointed any official or authorized seller of Geely-branded vehicles in Nepal.

Amidst this turmoil, we went ahead and questioned officials at LRR motors and they have assured us that they are indeed the official distributors and are importing the EX5 right out of Geely’s plant. Import and distribution of automobiles demands investment and operation at a large scale, so it is hard to believe that LRR Motors went beyond anything but official. Moreover, they are also establishing a dealership network across Nepal, with Biratnagar and Butwal showrooms already in operation and further plans for Narayanghat, Nepalgunj, and Pokhara.

For now, we will look at the EX5 in great detail and will update this article if anything new pops up.

The EX5 also comes with an 8-year or 160,000 km battery warranty. While this is now fairly standard in the segment, the battery technology itself is a stronger point and deserves a closer look later on.

Now, let’s take a look at the key specifications of the Geely EX5 in Nepal for 2026.

Geely EX5 Overview

Exterior

The Geely EX5, known as the Galaxy E5 in China, reflects Geely’s broader ambition to position itself strongly in the global EV space. The design follows Geely’s “Ripple of Light” language and focuses on a clean and minimalist look that prioritizes usability and technology. Development took place across Geely’s design studios in Shanghai, Gothenburg, and Milan, with a clear philosophy of user-centered design supported by modern tech integration.

The EX5 sits on the Geely Electric Architecture (GEA) platform, which plays a major role in its efficiency. Thanks to platform-level optimization, active front grille shutters, and an overall aerodynamic shape, the car achieves a drag coefficient of just 0.269. While the styling itself stays deliberately restrained, the engineering underneath has earned global recognition, including the Red Dot Award and the MUSE Platinum Award in 2025.

That said, the export-spec EX5 does lose some of the design flair seen on the China-spec Galaxy E5. The fully enclosed illuminated grille with its dynamic ripple lighting effect does not make it to the EX5. The boomerang-style cornering lights are also missing. These two elements add character to the Galaxy E5, and without them, the EX5 comes across as functional but visually conservative. For a brand-led EV, the local distributors seem to have missed this opportunity.

Visually, the EX5 closely resembles the Proton eMas 7, which is no coincidence since both originate from the same manufacturing base. Branding does most, if not all, of the differentiating here. Up front, the EX5 features slim headlamp units with integrated DRLs. The Max variant adds Intelligent High Beam Control, while the lower bumper integrates active grille shutters that also function as air curtains to manage airflow efficiently.

From the side, the long wheelbase immediately stands out. At 2750 mm, it is longer than rivals like the BYD Atto 3 and the MG S5 EV. A longer wheelbase usually translates into better interior space, and the EX5 clearly benefits from this proportion. Depending on the variant, it rides on 18-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels, both designed with aerodynamics in mind.

One specification that raises questions is the claimed 180 mm ground clearance for both laden and unladen conditions. In real-world terms, these two figures are almost never identical. A noticeable drop in clearance under load is normal unless the suspension is unusually stiff or reinforced. Given that the EX5 shares its underpinnings with the eMas 7, which leans toward a softer suspension setup, the real laden ground clearance is likely lower than the stated figure. This could be a brochure oversight, but it is worth flagging for buyers in Nepal.

Rear Styling in Geely EX5

At the rear, the EX5 adopts a full-width LED taillight bar that stretches across the tailgate. The rear glass is generously sized and includes a rear wiper. The boot opening is wide, suggesting a practical cargo area, and the Max variant adds a powered tailgate, a feature the Pro variant does without.

For those who follow the EV space closely, the similarities between the EX5 and the eMas 7 are hard to ignore. Badge engineering is not a problem on its own, but as Geely’s own branded EV, the EX5 would have benefited from retaining the illuminated grille and distinctive lighting elements seen on the Galaxy E5.

Still, for buyers who value the Geely badge, the EX5 is offered in five exterior colors: Silver, Green, Grey, Black, and White.

Interior

The cabin, staying true to the neo-Chinese car’s interior ethos, adopts a minimalist layout. Now we should mention again that the interior of the EX5 is also similar to that of the Proton eMas 7, with only minor distinctions. The most obvious difference is the logo on the steering wheel, and the second one is the size of the infotainment screen. While the eMas 7 uses a 15.6-inch screen, the EX5 brochure mentions 15.4 sized screen. But I am pretty sure they are fundamentally the same.

But let’s direct our attention to the EX5. There is an abundance of leatherette wrappings, giving that plush kind of sensation. While the material is not of the greatest class, it does feel nice and cozy. One area that this EV will amaze you thoroughly is the sheer size of the cabin. The long wheelbase, elevated roofline, and compact battery size all contribute to the astounding size and shape that you have at your disposal while driving the car.

The seats are comfortable, and both variants of the EX5 support power adjustability and ventilation, i.e., a 6-way electrically adjustable driver seat and a 4-way electrically adjustable front passenger seat. But the front seat memory function is reserved for the Max variant only.

As mentioned previously, the EX5 has a 15.4-inch infotainment screen operating on the FLYME operating system (like the eMas 7) and an excellently laid-out 10.2-inch instrument cluster (again, like the eMas 7). The Max variant elevates it a notch higher with the windshield heads-up display. Other distinctions between the Pro and Max variants include the panoramic sunroof and 16-speaker audio system that remains exclusive on the Max variant, and the Pro variant makes do with no sunroof and a 6-speaker system.

Performance

Aside from the evidently familiar design, the powertrain of the EX5 might also give some of our readers Déjà vu, but that is no accident. We will explain what that is after we examine the performance part thoroughly.

The EX5 does not resort to any detuning in motor capacity. Instead, both variants use the standard 160 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor, which generates a max power of 218 PS and a max torque of 320 Nm. It is partly a reason why the EX5 has a higher price as compared to other SUVs of this segment.

Due to this, the EX5 becomes a lively car to drive, with 0 to 100 kmph sprint time ranging from 6.9 seconds to 7.1 seconds, for the Pro and Max variant respectively. While the top speed is capped at 175 kmph, the front-wheel drive setup suggests that the EX5 is not actually meant for performance, rather it is more of a comfortable and mature kind of executive EV.

Also, both of the variants of the EX5 are equipped with a 60.22 kWh Geely Short Blade Battery Pack, which is based on Lithium Iron Phosphate chemistry.

Geely Auto has developed the Short Blade Battery, a next-generation LFP battery that improves on the current-gen Blade technology. It is 40% shorter, which lowers internal resistance and theoretically enables faster charging with the help of carbon nanotubes. The compact design also delivers stronger cold-weather performance, addressing a known weakness of long Blade cells. With an energy density in the ballpark of 192 Wh/kg, it outperforms BYD’s first-generation Blade Battery and claims a 1-million-kilometer lifespan with around 3500 charge cycles. Moreover, it has been tested extensively in a multitude of tests, so it is one of the safest battery packs commercially fitted on an EV.

The 60.22 kWh pack on the EX5 supports a WLTP range of 430 km to 425 km for the Pro and Max variant respectively. The slightly lower WLTP range on the Max variant can be due to the extra 50 kgs that it carries and an inch bigger tires (19-inch). Otherwise, the powertrain is similar in both of the EX5 variants.

The battery pack can be charged from 0 to 100% in around 8.5 hours with a 7.2 kW Charger, while the 100 kW of DC charging, which is the max DC charging support on the EX5, can charge from 30% to 80% in around 20 mins.

Now, the thing about the Déjà vu we talked about was how close the powertrain of EX5 is to that of the Proton e.Mas 7. Both come with a 160 kW motor, have similar performance figures, a similar battery pack, and much of everything is the same. The only difference is that while the e.Mas7’s variants are equipped with different battery packs; the EX5 features the same 60.22 kWh battery pack on both of its variants and only differs in terms of features.

Geely EX5 Price in Nepal and Availability

Talking about the price, the Geely EX5 price in Nepal starts at Rs. 58,00,000 for the Pro variant and goes up to Rs. 68,00,000 for the Max variant.

As LRR Motors has clearly mentioned, these are the discounted prices, and they don’t provide any additional shaving on the price beyond the specified price. But standard practices of 1-year road tax, Auto Insurance, and 7.2 kW AC Charger are included with the purchase of the EX5.

LRR Motors is expanding its dealership network with the addition of outlets in Narayanghat and Pokhara to its existing Kathmandu, Biratnagar, and Butwal showrooms. So, interested individuals can visit the nearest Geely showroom for additional information.

The following table lists the Geely EX5 price in Nepal for 2026.

Pro Rs. 58,00,000
Max Rs. 68,00,000

Rivals

Now coming to the competition, the Geely EX5 enters one of the most crowded e-SUV segments in Nepal. It goes up against established and upcoming rivals such as the BYD Atto 3, MG S5 EV, Mahindra BE 6, Leapmotor B10, and the Hyundai Creta Electric, among others. However, its most complicated rivalry is not with these models, but with the Proton e.Mas 7, where the battle is more about identity than specifications.

The e.Mas 7 benefited early from the strong dealer network and long-established market trust of Jagadamba Motors. It positioned itself as a tech-forward, spacious, and executive EV with strong battery credentials, and the market received it positively. That said, sales never quite matched distributor expectations, performing decently rather than decisively.

Things became murkier when LRR Motors showcased the EX5 at the 2025 NADA Auto Show, which further diluted the e.Mas 7’s positioning. This even prompted an official clarification stating that Geely had no authorized distributor in Nepal at the time. The confusion stemmed from the fact that the e.Mas 7 targeted South Asian markets, while Geely sold the same vehicle globally. While the dust has largely settled, questions around originality and official backing still linger.

The e.Mas 7 also faced challenges of its own. It launched straight against the Atto 3 at a similar price point, but BYD Nepal already enjoyed strong brand equity and EV credibility. Proton, on the other hand, was introducing its first EV to the Nepali market, which made the premium pricing harder to justify.

On paper, the EX5 and the e.Mas 7 Premium variants are identical in terms of design, hardware, performance, and much of everything. The real difference comes down to the badge. If LRR Motors clearly establishes and publicly reinforces its official Geely distribution rights, buyer preference is likely to tilt toward the Geely name. In that scenario, brand value rather than specifications will ultimately decide the winner.
