Tootle Introduces Commission Free Model For It’s Riders!

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Tootle by Zapp launched “Tootle Pro” — Nepal’s first ride-hailing subscription service.
  • With this feature, riders can pay an upfront cost instead of a commission on every ride.
  • The introductory price for it is Rs. 499/month for bike riders and Rs. 999/month for cab drivers.

Tootle, Nepal’s pioneering first ride-sharing platform, continues to lead the way with its latest service — “Tootle Pro“. While the naming may have you believe it might be a tiered service for customers like InDrive’s “Comfort” or Pathao’s “Car Plus”.

However, this has nothing to do with the common patrons, instead, it is service for the riders and drivers. Let’s discuss Tootle Pro further in this article.

What Is Tootle Pro?

Tootle Pro is a subscription-based modality targeted at riders and drivers. By paying an upfront charge, or in other words, subscribing to this service, the bike riders and cab drivers will no longer be charged the regular commission on the rides they take. For 28 days, at least.

Once the subscription tenure is over, normal commission rates will be applied on every ride. So, 15% on bike, and 12% on cab rides. After that, riders can resubscribe to the service and continue.

Tootle says there will be no unpredictable ride costs or additional charges associated with this service, apart from insurance costs and TDS. Sounds cool and all. But what’s the subscription fee like?

Tootle Pro Subscription Fee

The subscription fee is different for bike riders and cab drivers. Additionally, Tootle by Zapp is running an introductory offer, allowing riders to subscribe to the service at half the price.

Tootle Pro Subscription Fee

Subscription Plan Subscription Fee Subscription Validity
Unlimited Plan (Bike Riders) Rs. 999 Rs. 499 28 days
Unlimited Plan (Cab Drivers) Rs. 1,999 Rs. 999 28 days

Tootle hasn’t specified how long the introductory offer will be available, but we think it could last a month or two.

Is it worth it, though?

Now that Tootle Pro is here, my immediate thought was, “Is it actually better than the regular model?”, which led me down this mathematical rabbit hole. Let’s break it down:

For bike riders, let’s assume an average ride is worth Rs. 100 (excluding insurance fees and TDS for simplicity), and the rider completes 3 rides a day. Over 28 days, that’s Rs. 8,400 in earnings — on which a 15% commission would amount to Rs. 1,260.

Similarly, for cab drivers, I am assuming an average ride brings in Rs. 400, and they manage 2 rides a day. That’s Rs. 22,400 in 28 days, with a 12% commission adding up to Rs. 2,688.

Ride Sharing
Ride Sharing

I know these are part-timer numbers. I’ve done ride-sharing myself in the past, and I’ve spoken to riders who do double-digit rides daily, at least on bikes. So even with these modest figures, paying Rs. 999 (bike) or Rs. 1,999 (cab) for a Tootle Pro subscription is already the smarter choice. You’re saving about 21–25% on commissions — even at these rookie levels.

So, yes, Tootle Pro is absolutely worth it. And considering the subscription is available at half the price right now, it is a no-brainer!

Tootle Pro: Conclusion

This isn’t an entirely new modality, as ride-hailing platforms have tried and tested similar services abroad. Local competitions also offer different services to entice the riders.

For instance, InDrive allows riders to place and bargain fares, while Pathao has put a dynamic commission system in place that can drop as low as 1%. However, in both these approaches, you still have to pay commissions in a timely manner.

Meanwhile, with Tootle Pro, you pay it once, and you don’t need to worry about any of that for the next 28 days! All in all, it is great to know that Tootle has introduced a feature that benefits the riders greatly.
