Google I/O 2017: Things You Should Know

Google I/O is an annual event that brings together developers from around the globe focusing on the next generation of tech. This special developer event was held at Shoreline Amphitheater from May 17 to May 19, 2017.

The event showcased innovation in the tech world. Google CEO Sundar Pichai put more focus on Machine Learning and advancement of artificial intelligence. If you missed the event, here are the things that you need to know.

1. Google Assistance

Google Assistance is no longer android exclusive. The app will be available to iOS users on their iPhone. It is expected to be used by more third-party developers with the release of Google Assistance SDK. It will allow any device manufacturer to build Google Assistance into their applications.

2. Google Lens

Google Lens is the powerful combination of Image Recognition with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. It will be featured in the new Google Assistance that provides users with the information when users point the object with the camera. For example, if you point your camera to a flower, Google Lens will give you more information about that flower.

3. Android O

Google has released Android O with new improvements. “Picture-in-Picture” is a unique multi-window mode. This will allow users to multitask in different apps simultaneously. This feature was available with the help of third-party apps but it is an android built-in feature. Notification dots is another feature where dots will indicate when you have a notification. Users can access those via long press.

4. Suggestive Sharing

Google Photos will feature much more than organizing photos. Suggestive Sharing will use facial recognition in photos to suggest sharing it with the people. This will use a shared library where users can freely share photos with people in the picture. There will be the release of new photo manipulation technique where you can remove visual obstructions in the photo. However, the workings of this feature are yet to be seen.
