Sundar Auto Engineering has started the preparations to set up an electric vehicle assembly plant in Nepal. The assembly will be located in around a 3-acre site in the Sainamana Municipality in Butwal.
Sundar Auto Engineering is the subsidiary company of Sundar Yatayat Pvt. Ltd. They were also the first private Ltd Company to bring electric buses in Nepal.
Sundar Yatayat has partnered with China’s Sichuan Guhang Automobile and SEC Group of UAE and established this joint venture. While the Chinese company has 49 percent investment, Sundar Auto Engineering and SEC have a total of 51 percent share in the company.
The JV is close to completing a detailed project report (DPR) of the vehicle assembly plant. “We will complete the DPR by next week,” says Bhesh Bahadur Thapa, chairman of Sundar Yatayat.

According to Thapa, they will set up an assembly plant within next year.
The company aims to bring 100 vehicles by next 15 months. “We will be assembling two-wheelers and four-wheelers (bus, car and motorcycle),” says Thapa.
Thapa shares that the joint venture company Sundar Automobile Engineering will produce will have the capacity to produce 1,000 vehicles a year if the demand for electric vehicles rises accordingly.
He shares that vehicles produced in the assembly plant will have a 25 percent lesser price than the imported vehicle.
The spare parts will be obtained from India, Germany, China and Korea, he says. The taxation on the spare parts of electric vehicles stands at 3 percent to 5 percent.
