Build and Design

The new Mac Mini doesn’t get any rework in terms of design. It still uses the aluminum chassis and has the same exterior design.

One of the noticeable changes to the exterior of the Mac mini is the port selection. Mac mini M1 gets an ethernet port, 2X USB 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports, HDMI capable of up to 6k resolution, 2X USB 3.0 ports, and a headphone jack.

It supports two displays simultaneously. One display with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz can be connected via Thunderbolt and one display with up to 4K resolution at 60Hz can be connected via HDMI 2.0.

Mac mini also features a built-in speaker and the HDMI 2.0 port also supports multichannel audio output.

Hardware

The Mac mini M1 is kitted with Apple’s M1 processor, the first CPU in the Apple silicon family to come to Macs.

It is the same processor that is also used on the all-new MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. It has an octa-core processor with four high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores. The 8-core GPU is capable of running 25,000 threads simultaneously.

For memory, it comes with either 8GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB/512GB/1TB storage options.

Apple claims that M1 has the world’s best CPU performance per watt and its GPU to be the fastest integrated GPU.

Connectivity & OS

For connectivity, Mac mini has 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 with IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac compatibility. Plus, it comes with Bluetooth 5.0 as well.

Furthermore, the Mac Mini M1 runs on macOS Big Sur.

The M1 chip and macOS Big Sur work together to make the entire system snappier. Mac mini wakes almost instantly from sleep. Everyday things like flipping through photos and browsing Safari are faster.
