Sajha Yatayat is preparing to introduce multi-purpose digital cards for its regular passengers. The multi-purpose card can be recharged by the passengers time to time. They can use it to pay their bus fares instead of cash. Sajha Yatayat has collaborated with Nepal Bank Ltd. to introduce the digital cards which are first of its kind in Nepal. A technical team from India and Bangladesh has been hired to implement the digital card system in Sajha Yatayat buses.
There will be two swap machines installed at the front and rear door of the Sajha Yatayat bus for the passengers to pay fares through their card, said Mahendra Raj Pandeya, manager at Sajha Yatayat. The rear door swap machine will record the passenger’s mounting address and front door will record the dismounting address.
The bus fare will be deducted from the balance amount in the digital card according to the distance traveled by the passenger. Bus fare for the travel will be determined by the total distance traveled by passenger on the basis of difference between dismounting and mounting address. “Passenger without the digital card will be charged at least Rs. 20, while students will be provided discount.”, said Pandeya.
