Worldlink, one of the most popular Nepali ISPs, expanded its offering by launching the “Worldlink 1 Gbps” internet package on March 26, 2022, which offers up to 1 Gbps download speed and 500 Mbps upload speed.

This is the second ISP in Nepal to offer a package with up to 1000 Mbps download speed, following Classic Tech’s Tachyon. Prior to this, the highest internet package Worldlink provided was the Photon 600 package, which provided internet speeds of up to 600 Mbps.

Similar to Photon 600 package, the Worldlink 1 Gbps internet plan also uses a mesh Wi-Fi system using Nokia WiFi Beacon 3 mesh routers.

Along with the introduction of the Worldlink 1 Gbps plan, the ISP also updated its Photon Lite packages. The Lite package increased the speed of two of its three packages to 200 Mbps and 250 Mbps, up from 150 Mbps and 225 Mbps, respectively. The third package in the series, the 300 Mbps plan, remains unchanged.

WorldLink 1 Gbps: Internet Plans & Pricing

Similar to Worldlink’s 600Mbps plan, the Worldlink 1 Gbps package is also available on a yearly subscription basis only. The 12-month plan subscription alone costs Rs. 39,999 without VAT. Including 13% VAT, the subscription costs Rs. 45,198.87.

This plan provides a free dual-band (2.4GHz + 5GHz) ONU router (worth Rs. 1,130 with VAT), and a free drop wire (worth Rs. 565 with VAT). However, the customer needs to pay Rs. 500 as a deposit for the ONU.

The ISP also mentions that the installation is done for free. However, it only refers to a basic installation and not the “smart installation” for which the ISP charges Rs. 3,000 for each.

Installation for Beacon 3 with Mesh System

The Worldlink 1 Gbps package requires customers to install “Beacon 3.0” routers mandatorily. Beacon 3.0 is the name given by Worldlink to a “Nokia WiFi Beacon 3”, which is a mesh Wi-Fi router from Nokia.

"Nokia
Nokia WiFi Beacon 3

It’s a more powerful and expensive router than the Nokia Beacon 1.1, which was introduced earlier by Worldlink in its 300 Mbps mesh Wi-Fi system.

The Nokia WiFi Beacon 3 is a dual-band Wi-Fi router, similar to the Beacon 1.1, that has Wi-Fi 5 technology but instead of only 2 x 2 MIMO antennas, it uses 3 x 3 MIMO antennas on the 2.4GHz channel and 4 x 4 MIMO antennas on the 5GHz channel.

The number of Beacon routers you need depends on the size of the house and the required coverage. Per Beacon 3 router, Worldlink charges Rs. 9,040 (with VAT) as a rental charge and Rs. 2,000 as a deposit.

Additionally, the smart installation costs Rs. 3,000 per router. According to Worldlink, the smart installation includes proper testing and ensuring that the router locations are optimal for consistent coverage and speed throughout the house.

For the NetTV connection, Worldlink activates the first set-top box (a.k.a. primary STB) for free. However, customers need to pay Rs. 500 as a deposit, which is refundable if the customer returns the set-top box in working condition.

For any additional NetTV installation, activating set-top box costs Rs. 2,000 + 13% VAT, totaling Rs. 2,260 each. In addition, Rs. 500 per set-top box should be paid as a deposit.

Worldlink’s Fair Usage Policy (FUP) for 1 Gbps Internet Package

Fair Usage Policy, or FUP, is a policy that ISPs use to throttle consumers’ internet speeds if they consume too much of the ISP’s bandwidth.

Worldlink specifies that its FUP is applicable to all plans, including unlimited ones. However, when asked, the ISP responded that the cap had not been decided yet.
