There’s an unseen rush in the market to deliver the best smartphone. Underneath the shadows, each and every company is researching to attract the greatest number of customers. For most companies, the obvious choice has become a greater number of cameras.

One such phone that offers wide variety in camera section is the ViVO’s latest offering, VIVO V17 Pro. Just how versatile is the camera is VIVO V17 Pro? Well, it offers 6 different cameras comprising of rear quad cam-setup with dual pop-up selfie cameras. It’s one of the hyped phone in the mobile market right now. And guess what? The phone is now officially launched in Nepal as well. The Vivo V17 Pro price in Nepal is set Rs. 52,490.

Note: The phone was introduced in Nepal about 15 days ago. But, it was available in limited retail outlets only. As of today, the phone is available for offline sales all across the country.

Now let’s talk more about the Vivo V17 Pro in detail.

Design and Display

The VIVO V17 Pro is as far as looks concerned, an elegant device. The device has a symmetric look and feel which really pleases me a lot. The frontal part is almost fully bezel-less which can be accredited to the pop-up selfie camera mechanism. The rear consists of a quad camera setup placed in a vertical alignment with a flash module portioning the cameras.

The only thing that complements the symmetricity in design is the hefty feel of the device. At 202g, the device should feel a little bulky in hand. On the brighter side, you get a motorized pop-up camera and a large Non-removable Li-Po 4100 mAh battery which is acceptable. The phone is plastic all around which is a bit discouraging as I was expecting an overall glass body.

Talking about the motorized camera setup, it’s not an entirely new concept but is actually quite interesting. The cut-out for the setup is rather neat and the way it moves up and down is quite captivating. Though the downside is that you won’t be getting a face-unlock feature. Instead for biometrics, the phone includes an in-display fingerprint sensor which should be quite reliable.

And speaking of reliability, we can rely on this phone to have a headphone jack even when most other phones seem to have ditched it. There’s an USB type C port which supports the 18W fast charging standard.

On the surface, the phone has a 6.44” immersive display with a huge aspect ratio of 20:9. The display does live up to the standards of sAMOLED and FHD+ resolution which is amazing.

Processor, Battery and Storage

Moving on to the processing department, under the hood the phone has a Snapdragon 675 processor coupled with 8Gb RAM and 128Gb built-in storage. The processor isn’t all that bad but considering the overall device, I’d expected a processor from the 8 series. I mean just have a look at its competitor, the Redmi K20 Pro. It’s got the top-end 855 processor which kind of led me to estimate this device would have something like that as well.

I’ve got no problems with the Snapdragon 675 either, it’s smooth and the chipset is powerful enough. As seen on other devices, it got no performance issues as well. But striving for a better chipset would have changed the game entirely. Do note that this is a camera-oriented phone. So, introducing a 7 or 8 series processor would’ve improved its cameras to a whole new level.

""

About the software, the phone runs on FunTouch 9.1 on top of Android 9. If you are familiar with the FunTouch OS, it’s a bulkier themed skin. It has support for customizable icons, extra themes, gesture-based navigation and dedicated night mode. Personally, I prefer a lighter themed setup. So, the FunTouch OS isn’t for me.

I did mention that the phone had a bulky battery in the beginning. The phone houses a 4100mAh battery life which on average usage should undoubtedly last more than a day. One part that could be accredited here is the Snapdragon 675 processor. Because of the power efficiency of the processor, the battery should be nothing short of amazing.

Camera

Finally, the see what the fuss is all about in the camera department. As the title suggests, the phone has overall 6 cameras with 4 coupled in a vertical alignment on the rear and 2 under the motorized camera setup. The primary camera in the rear is a 48MP Sony IMX582 sensor paired with an 8MP wide-angle, a 13MP telephoto and a 2MP depth sensor.

"vivo

The 48MP sensor is the one that’s been augmented in almost all flagships nowadays. And like the others, the images can be shot using 12MP shooter or a direct 48MP shooter. The 48MP shooter however decreases the quality. In other phones, the camera’s been known to deliver detailed shots with matching light conditions. So, it should be quite good in terms of camera performance.

The front consists of a 32MP shooter mated with an 8MP ultrawide camera setup. I’m not sure how great the photos are as I haven’t tested the cameras. But if it’s anything as the other 32MP sensor, it is a definitely powerful shooter.

There’s a dedicated night mode for night shots as well. And interestingly, it includes a macro lens for tiny objects. And even more interesting is that it has a dual flash one for each system (front and rear).
