(Photo courtesy of Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Nepal is going to collaborate along with more than 20 countries in a Japanese project to launch about 20 microsatellites over the next three years, <em>reports <a href=\"https:\/\/asia.nikkei.com\/Tech-Science\/Tech\/Laos-and-Nepal-to-ride-Japan-s-microsatellites-into-space\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Asian Review<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<h4>The Details:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>The plan by a team from the University of Tokyo plans to launch the <a href=\"https:\/\/techlekh.com\/tag\/satellites\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">satellites<\/a> to supplement <a href=\"https:\/\/techlekh.com\/category\/telecom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">telecommunications<\/a> infrastructure.<\/li>\n<li>The project will help Nepal and other emerging countries get into space and perhaps spur future demand for satellites and related services.<\/li>\n<li>It will supplement existing telecommunications infrastructure, facilitating measurement of water levels and temperatures from sensors installed in rivers, farmland and other locations.<\/li>\n<li>The information from the satellites can be used to monitor floods and other changes in the environment.<\/li>\n<li>In an early February test, the team used an SS-520 rocket from the <a href=\"https:\/\/techlekh.com\/tag\/japan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Japan<\/a> Aerospace Exploration Agency to launch a Tricom-1R microsatellite, known as &#8220;Tasuki,&#8221; into orbit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Why it matters:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>These microsatellites will only be 3 Kg that is less than one thousandth the weight of a conventional satellite.
